How a Submersible Pump Works

Located completely underwater, submersible pumps have impellers that push water up into a pipe and storage tank above the surface, where a pressure switch then allows the water to travel into your home’s taps.
How a Jet Pump Works
While submersible pumps are popular because of their universal utility, jet pumps are popular because of how powerful and fast they are.
Like submersible pumps, jet pumps are suitable for wells of varying depths. For shallow wells, single-drop models are used and get installed inside your house or an outbuilding. Meanwhile, for deeper wells, double-drop models are used and get installed in a split configuration, with the motor staying inside, aboveground, and the jet being assembled down in the well.
In both models, the jet’s impellers create pressure, which then drives water through a small opening, increasing the water’s speed and creating a vacuum. In turn, this vacuum sucks even more water from the well. The two streams of water combine and deliver water to your house at a high pressure and speed.
